THE INTERNATIONAL PROJECT OF THE GARDENS OF THE IMAGINATION
In 1996, the municipality of Terrasson Lavilledieu launched an international competition for the creation of a garden in the Dordogne.
The project of the English architect Ian Ritchie and the American landscape architect Kathryn Gustafson was selected.
The achievements of these two architects are now known and recognized worldwide.
These gardens, unique in Europe, cover 6 hectares and overlook the Vézère and its valley. They are registered on the list of remarkable gardens in France.
GARDENS WITH ORIGINAL ARCHITECTURE
Installed on 6 ha, the gardens of the imagination are declined in 13 tables. Each painting evokes a part of the history of gardens.
You will discover in this environment :
- the sacred wood and its 2500 boxwoods;
- the plant tunnel, stroll under the hops, wisteria and jasmines;
- elementary gardens, the mixture of trees and flowers ;
- the terraces established on the old stone walls;
- the open-air theater, the magic of an open-air theater;
- the axis of the winds and its giant weathervanes;
- flower, garden and city perspectives;
- water gardens, waterfalls and fountains;
- the rose garden, 2000 roses for the pleasure of the eyes and the nose;
- the path of the fountains, they will decorate your way;
- the topiary garden, bower and boxwood pruned into a plant tunnel;
- the rivers, a symbolism where the 5 biggest rivers of the world come to life;
- the greenhouse, not plant, it is the link between heaven and earth.
Each of these worlds addresses a different theme mixing plants, water, light and perspectives.
OPENING DATES AND RATES OF THE TERRASSON GARDEN
The gardens of the imagination are open from March 31 to September 30, every day in July and August.
The rates are :
- adults: 7,5€.
- less than 18 years old : 4,5
- under 10 years old : free
- Group rate (school or adult): from 3€ to 6€ (20 people minimum)
